Rudi founded Monsoon Communications in March 1999 after working as head of public affairs for Transurban City Link Limited. At Transurban he was a direct report to the MD responsible for all aspects of communications for one of Australia’s highest profile infrastructure projects. He was responsible for strategy and managing Australia’s first Etag launch and the introduction of tolling to Melbourne roads; the media launch of the Gateway to Melbourne; issues management including for the various fracas among the contractors; finance media launch for the start-up $500m IPO; commissioning and getting board acceptance for the Transurban branding; sponsorship management including lead sponsorship of Melbourne’s F1 grand prix; managing the first tunnel works public inspection with over 40,000 visitors in a day and proactive comms for the many and varied stakeholders. Rudi was actually the first Transurban employee; the company now has a market cap of $9 billion. Before Transurban, Rudi was the Public Affairs Manager at the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA).
